Charlie Kirk Memorial Statue Vandalized Days After Phoenix Unveiling

PHOENIX, Arizona — September 14, 2026
A memorial statue honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk was vandalized outside Turning Point USA’s headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, only days after the organization unveiled the monument marking the first anniversary of his death.
The eight-foot bronze-colored statue was unveiled on September 10, exactly one year after Kirk was fatally shot during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University in Utah.
According to police and reports from local and national media, the statue was discovered defaced with red paint early Sunday morning. A nearby memorial display was also vandalized during the incident.
Red paint was reportedly smeared across several parts of the statue, including its face and neck, while additional markings were placed across the monument’s body.
The vandalism attracted immediate attention because the paint appeared around the neck area, where Kirk suffered the fatal gunshot wound during the Utah Valley University event last year.
A nearby memorial poster was also reportedly targeted, with markings placed over religious references. The incident has intensified debate surrounding the increasingly political and emotional response to Kirk’s death.
Phoenix police have opened an investigation and are seeking information that could help identify those responsible. Authorities have not publicly announced an arrest connected to the latest vandalism.
Turning Point USA condemned the vandalism, describing the incident as an attack on a memorial dedicated to its late founder and calling for accountability.
Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA and became one of the most recognizable conservative activists in America, particularly through his campus appearances and efforts to mobilize younger Republican voters.
His death last September shocked conservative political circles and prompted tributes from President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and numerous Republican leaders across the country.
The first anniversary has brought renewed attention to Kirk’s political legacy, with supporters portraying him as an influential conservative organizer while critics continue to challenge his rhetoric and political positions.
The Phoenix statue was not the only monument connected to Kirk unveiled around the anniversary. A separate temporary statue appeared in New York City’s Times Square, where supporters and protesters confronted one another during its unveiling.
The Times Square event demonstrated how divisive Kirk’s legacy remains, with police monitoring confrontations between supporters and opponents as tensions escalated around the temporary memorial.
The New York statue was created by artist Sergio Furnari, who reportedly spent approximately $100,000 of his own money producing the sculpture as a tribute to Kirk and an expression of free speech.
Unlike the Phoenix incident, the Times Square controversy centered primarily on clashes between opposing groups rather than confirmed vandalism of the statue itself.
The latest vandalism has renewed concerns about political tensions surrounding public memorials and the possibility that highly controversial figures could become targets for symbolic acts of protest.
For Turning Point USA, the Phoenix statue represents an effort to preserve Kirk’s memory and highlight his influence on the conservative movement following his death.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, while supporters of Kirk have called for the memorial to be protected and for those responsible to face appropriate consequences.
The vandalism comes during a politically charged period in the United States, ensuring that Charlie Kirk’s memorials will likely remain subjects of intense public attention and debate.
