Charlie Kirk Statue Vandalized Outside Turning Point USA Headquarters Days After Unveiling
Red paint was smeared across the newly installed memorial in Arizona, while a nearby Christian tribute was also defaced. Police are investigating and Turning Point USA says the monument will be restored.
PHOENIX — A newly unveiled statue honoring conservative activist Charlie Kirk was vandalized with bright red paint outside Turning Point USA’s headquarters, only three days after its installation marking the first anniversary of his assassination.
Phoenix police said officers received reports of vandalism shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, September 13, at the memorial site near 48th Street and Beverly Road, where the eight-foot bronze statue had been displayed.
Photographs from the scene show red paint smeared across the statue’s face, neck, torso and one hand, with a large frowning symbol painted on the front of the figure’s shirt.
A nearby memorial display was also damaged. Kirk’s photograph was marked over, while the word “Jesus” on a Christian tribute appeared to have been crossed out, according to local television reports.
Turning Point USA condemned the damage, describing the vandalism as “diabolical,” and said the organization would restore the statue, replace the damaged signs and cooperate with investigators reviewing surveillance footage.
The group said the attack occurred overnight and emphasized that the memorial would remain part of its effort to preserve Kirk’s legacy, despite what it characterized as an intentional act of desecration.
Erika Kirk, Kirk’s widow and the current chief executive of Turning Point USA, responded publicly, writing that attempts to obscure her husband’s legacy with spray paint would only spread it further.
She also invoked Kirk’s belief in building rather than destroying, saying the organization would clean the site, restore the statue and continue its work rather than allow the vandalism to derail its mission.
The statue had been unveiled on September 10, exactly one year after Kirk was fatally shot while speaking at a Turning Point event on the campus of Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
Local coverage said the monument stands approximately eight feet tall and depicts Kirk in a “FREEDOM” shirt, recalling the clothing he wore during the final public appearance before the deadly shooting.
Kirk, 31, co-founded Turning Point USA in 2012 and built the Phoenix-based organization into an influential conservative youth network, with campus chapters, political programs and a large national media presence.
His killing in September 2025 intensified national debate about political violence and security at public events, while also prompting vigils, memorials and tributes from conservative activists and Republican leaders nationwide.
Tyler Robinson, 23, has been charged in connection with Kirk’s death and has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors are pursuing an aggravated murder case that could carry the death penalty if he is convicted.
One year later, Turning Point USA continues operating under Erika Kirk’s leadership, while the organization and its political arm have expanded activity in several states and remained focused on conservative voter mobilization.
The Phoenix statue was one of several commemorations surrounding the anniversary. Turning Point also held a memorial gathering at Utah Valley University, where speakers and supporters returned to the campus where Kirk was killed.
At that Utah event, another bronze sculpture depicting Kirk seated with a microphone was displayed onstage, while thousands of attendees gathered under heightened security for speeches, prayers and remembrances of his political work.
The vandalism in Arizona has now shifted attention from the anniversary commemorations to security at memorial sites, as police seek evidence that could identify the person or people responsible for the overnight damage.
Authorities have not publicly announced a suspect. Phoenix police and Turning Point USA have asked anyone with information to contact investigators or Silent Witness as the criminal investigation remains active.
The episode comes amid continuing political polarization surrounding Kirk’s legacy, which supporters describe as an enduring conservative movement and critics view through sharply different assessments of his rhetoric and political influence.
For now, Turning Point USA says the damaged memorial will be repaired rather than removed, turning the vandalism into another flashpoint in the broader debate over political violence, memory and public expression in America.
