DETROIT: CASUALTIES AND SAFETY THREATS...

Detroit Shooting Leaves Three Dead and Four Injured After Sunday Morning Altercation

Three people were killed and four others injured after a shooting at an after-hours location on Detroit’s west side early Sunday morning, according to Detroit police.

Police responded shortly after 7:20 a.m. near Prest Street and Eaton Avenue after receiving reports of gunfire in the residential area.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said officers arrived within minutes and found three men suffering from fatal gunshot wounds at the scene.

Four additional victims — two men and two women — were transported to nearby hospitals in private vehicles, according to authorities.

Police said the four surviving victims suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening, while the three people who died were men believed to be at least 30 years old.

Investigators said the shooting appears to have followed an altercation, with Bettison describing the incident as a fight that escalated into gun violence.

The location had previously attracted police attention. Bettison said officers had responded to the address seven times since the beginning of 2026.

Authorities described the property as an after-hours venue where “dancing-type activities” were taking place, comparing its operation to a strip-club setting.

Police have not announced an arrest in connection with the shooting, although investigators said they had developed leads and were continuing to identify those responsible.

Officials said there was no indication of an ongoing threat to the broader community following the shooting.

Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield urged anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators as authorities work to reconstruct what happened.

The identities of the three people killed had not initially been released by police. Local reports later identified one victim through family members.

The shooting has renewed attention on illegal or unauthorized after-hours operations in Detroit neighborhoods, particularly locations that repeatedly generate calls for police service.

Mayor Sheffield said city officials intend to work with police to address such operations in residential areas and businesses across Detroit.

Community members described hearing gunfire Sunday morning as police and emergency personnel arrived at the neighborhood.

According to local reporting, investigators received a ShotSpotter alert shortly after 7:20 a.m., followed by a 911 call reporting the shooting.

The circumstances surrounding the initial confrontation remain under investigation, and authorities have not publicly confirmed a motive.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting or has information about those involved to come forward as the investigation continues.

The incident adds another deadly shooting investigation to Detroit’s workload as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding violence at the after-hours location.

Investigators are expected to review evidence from the scene, interview witnesses and determine how the confrontation escalated into gunfire.
