Fox News Host Delivers Emotional Goodbye — But She Isn’t Leaving Fox News

Preview

A viral graphic featuring the headline “MY DEEPEST GRATITUDE — FOX NEWS HOST DELIVERS EMOTIONAL GOODBYE” makes the moment sound like a dramatic departure from Fox News. The underlying event, however, is real — but the headline leaves out a crucial detail.

The host was Emily Compagno, who signed off from Fox News Channel’s Outnumbered on September 4 after nearly six years on the program. But she was not leaving Fox News.

Instead, Compagno was moving to an even more prominent position: a permanent co-host role on The Five.

Verdict: TRUE, BUT MISLEADINGLY FRAMED.

Compagno's emotional farewell was real

During her final Outnumbered appearance, Compagno thanked viewers and the show's production staff.

She told viewers that after almost six years she wanted to express her “deepest gratitude” to those who had trusted her to help deliver and analyze the news.

She also thanked executive producer Trina Thompson and the broader Outnumbered team, praising their dedication and professionalism.

Her final message ended with a reference to her new assignment: “From now on, see you at 5:00.”

So the graphic's description of an emotional goodbye isn't fabricated. She really did deliver a farewell message.

The important distinction is what she was saying goodbye to.

She was saying goodbye to Outnumbered, not Fox News

Fox News announced on August 24 that Compagno would become a full-time co-host of The Five, beginning September 8.

The network said she would relinquish her position on Outnumbered, with other Fox personalities rotating through the vacant seat until a permanent replacement is selected.

And the move has now happened.

Fox's September 8 programming shows Compagno appearing on The Five, including segments in which she discussed issues such as Seattle politics and California.

So anyone reading the viral graphic as “a Fox News host is leaving Fox News” would get the wrong impression.

She isn't.

She has simply moved from one Fox program to another.

Why the move matters

The move is significant because The Five is one of Fox News' flagship programs.

Fox News said the show averaged about 3.6 million viewers during the second quarter of 2026 and had been the highest-rated program in cable news for 19 consecutive quarters.

Compagno joined Fox News as a contributor in 2018 and became a permanent Outnumbered co-host in 2021. Before television, she worked as an attorney and held positions within the federal government.

Her new role puts her alongside longtime Five co-hosts Greg Gutfeld, Dana Perino and Jesse Watters, with Harold Ford Jr. and Jessica Tarlov continuing to rotate through the show's other seat.

In other words, this was less a retirement or network exit than a promotion and programming change.

The viral graphic gets the emotional moment right — but the framing is incomplete

The image is built around a genuine television farewell. Compagno really did thank the audience, the crew and her colleagues after nearly six years on Outnumbered.

But the giant word “GOODBYE” can easily suggest that viewers were watching the end of her Fox News career.

That isn't what happened.

Fox News itself announced her new role weeks before the farewell, and the network's own video listings recorded her Outnumbered sign-off on September 4.

By September 8, she was already appearing on The Five.

The bottom line

The viral post is based on a real event, not a fabricated farewell.

But it turns a program-to-program transition into something that looks like a much bigger departure.

Emily Compagno said goodbye to Outnumbered. She did not say goodbye to Fox News.

Her next chapter had already been announced — and as of September 8, she had officially begun it on The Five.
