Actor Kelsey Grammer, best known for his iconic role as Dr. Frasier Crane, has sparked widespread conversation by offering high praise for President Donald Trump. In remarks made before the Kennedy Center Honors dinner in Washington, D.C., Grammer called Trump "extraordinary" and ranked him among the nation's best leaders .
Speaking to Fox News Digital at the event on Saturday, December 6, Grammer did not hold back his admiration for the president. "I think he's extraordinary," Grammer stated. "He's one of the greatest presidents we've ever had. Maybe the greatest. There are some things he still wants to get done, and I think that's terrific, but there was a big hill to climb" .
The 70-year-old actor's comments were made just before the formal ceremony where Trump presented medals to the year's honorees, which included Sylvester Stallone, Gloria Gaynor, George Strait, Michael Crawford, and the members of KISS . Grammer attended the dinner with his daughter, Faith .
Grammer, a long-time conservative in the predominantly liberal Hollywood landscape, has been a vocal supporter of Trump for years. His latest remarks are not an isolated incident. Earlier in 2025, he told The Times that it was "great to have somebody" in the White House who "actually means what they say" . In 2023, when asked on BBC Radio 4 if he still supported Trump, he simply replied, "I am. And I'll let that be the end of it" .
This public support has not come without cost. Grammer recently suggested that his conservative politics may have cost him work in Hollywood. "I suspect I may have [lost roles], but I suspect I may be, you know, in that category where they just don't even think about me," he mused on "The Katie Miller Podcast" . He argued that performance, rather than politics, should determine casting and awards recognition, lamenting that political correctness is "killing the process" in Hollywood .
The praise from Grammer arrives just weeks before the 2026 midterm elections, a period during which the actor has become more politically active. At a Trump event on Long Island in August 2026, Grammer was seated as a guest of honor and received a shoutout from the president, which drew a wave of criticism on social media . Critics, invoking his famous character, expressed disappointment, with some suggesting Grammer would be "cancelled" for his views .
Despite the backlash, Grammer remains steadfast. Earlier in the week, he visited the White House for a meeting with Trump, describing the president as "very chipper, very positive and uplifting" . The actor has even hinted at a potential run for political office himself, telling Us Weekly it is "likely I will at least throw my hat in the ring in some way" .
