SAN FRANCISCO – A fierce four-alarm fire tore through a multi-story residential building in the city's Nob Hill neighborhood on Thursday evening, forcing widespread evacuations and injuring at least one person .

The blaze was reported just before 6 p.m. at a three-story apartment complex on the corner of Washington and Larkin streets. Fire crews arriving on the scene found flames rapidly spreading through the first and second floors, with the fire already breaching the roof . The incident was quickly escalated to a four-alarm response, drawing approximately 120 firefighters from across the city to battle the inferno .

Fire officials reported that the blaze extended throughout the building, causing significant structural damage to all three floors and impacting adjacent structures . Thick, dark smoke was visible for blocks as crews engaged in an aggressive offensive attack to prevent the flames from spreading further.

Rescue Efforts and Injuries

First responders carried out a dramatic rescue operation as the fire raged. Chief Dean Crispen confirmed that firefighters pulled a woman in a wheelchair to safety, while assisting at least two others to evacuate down stairwells .

As of the latest update, one person has been transported to a local hospital. Three other individuals were treated at the scene for minor injuries . The full number of residents displaced by the fire is not yet known, but the American Red Cross has been notified to assist with emergency housing . The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Fire crews are expected to remain on-site for several hours to extinguish hot spots and prevent a rekindle .

This is a developing story.
