Maria Bartiromo Out at Fox News After 12 Years — But Her Next Move Is Already Taking Shape

Preview

A viral graphic claims Maria Bartiromo has announced a massive new job. The truth is more complicated: Bartiromo didn't leave Fox to announce a new role — she was pushed out, and her next chapter is still being written. But what's already clear is that the veteran financial journalist isn't fading quietly into the background.

The image circulating on social media features Bartiromo in three separate shots — at the Fox Business desk, on the set of "Mornings With Maria," and smiling beside President Donald Trump — under the headline: "Maria Bartiromo Announces New Job — This is Massive."

The graphic implies a triumphant career move. The reality is a sudden, unexplained exit from Fox News Media after more than 12 years, followed by reports that she's already in talks with CBS News about a potential role at "60 Minutes."

What Actually Happened at Fox

On September 3, 2026, Fox News Media announced that Bartiromo was "no longer with FOX News Media," effective immediately . The statement was terse: "We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 ½ years and wish her all the best on her next chapter" .

Bartiromo had not appeared on air since August 9. The final episode of "Mornings With Maria" aired Thursday morning — without Bartiromo appearing to bid farewell to viewers .

Fox moved quickly to rebrand her shows. "Mornings With Maria" became "Mornings With Fox Business," with rotating anchors. "Maria Bartiromo's Wall Street" became "FBN's Wall Street." And "Sunday Morning Futures" was temporarily handed to Jason Chaffetz .

Her bio page was scrubbed from the Fox Business website within hours .

The Real Reason Behind the Exit

While Fox characterized the departure as "a business decision," reporting from multiple outlets pointed to a more serious breach.

According to Status newsletter and confirmed by other outlets, Bartiromo allegedly shared internal Fox guidance with the White House concerning the network's coverage of President Trump's claims about the 2020 election . The internal directive advised Fox staffers against supporting unsubstantiated election claims. Bartiromo reportedly passed that information to a White House contact .

Divulging confidential company information to an outside party would be a violation of employment terms — and Fox executives reportedly viewed it as a fireable offense .

The context is significant: Fox had already settled a $787.5 million defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems in 2021 over false election claims aired on the network. Bartiromo was named in that lawsuit as one of the hosts who allowed those claims to air .

Her attorney, Bryan Freedman, disputed reports that she was fired, calling them "absolutely and unequivocally false" and saying he has "the receipts and witnesses" to prove it .

The CBS Talks: A Potential Comeback at "60 Minutes"

If the Fox chapter is over, the next one may already be underway.

According to multiple reports, Bartiromo has already spoken with CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss about a potential role — and "60 Minutes" is among the possibilities being discussed .

"Maria and Bari have already spoken," a television source told Rob Shuter's "Naughty But Nice" column. "Maria isn't sitting around licking her wounds. She's moving fast, and 60 Minutes is absolutely in the mix. She wants to remain a major player" .

The reported appeal for CBS is Bartiromo's access: "She can get CEOs, billionaires, political power players and Wall Street titans on the phone. You don't throw away a Rolodex like that," the source said .

The source added: "Maria believes she still belongs at the biggest table in television. And there is no bigger table than 60 Minutes. She wants back in the game — immediately" .

The White House Speculation — Shut Down

In the immediate aftermath of her exit, speculation swirled that Bartiromo might replace Karoline Leavitt as White House Press Secretary, given her close relationship with Trump and the vacancy left by Leavitt's departure .

Representative Nicole Malliotakis of New York even posted on X: "Maybe it's time for a Brooklyn girl to be the next White House Press Secretary?" .

But Vice President JD Vance poured cold water on the idea when asked by reporters. "I don't know, man. No, I don't think so," he said with a laugh, later calling Bartiromo "an amazing person, an amazing talent" .

Vanity Fair's Washington correspondent Aidan McLaughlin also reported: "Bartiromo is not leaving for a job in the Trump admin, I'm told" .

Trump's Reaction: "A True Warrior"

President Trump publicly expressed his dismay at Bartiromo's departure, posting on Truth Social: "I can't believe Maria Bartiromo is no longer going to have her great show(s) on FoxNews/Business. Three different shows, always number one. Maria is a total professional, and a true warrior. Her fans, of which there are many, will not be happy. God bless you, Maria!" .

Eric Trump also celebrated her, posting on X: "Maria Bartiromo is the best in the business and the hardest-working person in media. Smart. Kind. Principled. The best interviewer on television. This is a huge loss for Fox" .
