NETANYAHU PRAISES TRUMP AS ‘NO GREATER PARTNER’ DURING DEFIANT UN ADDRESS
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu used his address to the United Nations General Assembly to strongly praise President Donald Trump, describing him as Israel’s most important partner during its ongoing regional conflicts.
Netanyahu specifically thanked Trump for what he characterized as bold American leadership, saying the United States and Israel had worked together against threats facing both countries and the wider world.
“In this battle against the barbarians, we've had no greater partner than President Trump,” Netanyahu said during his September 24 address, directly crediting the American president for supporting Israel.
The remarks came during a forceful speech in New York, where Netanyahu defended Israel’s military actions while confronting international criticism over the Gaza war and broader regional tensions.
Netanyahu said American and Israeli forces had cooperated during military operations involving Iran, portraying the partnership as central to confronting what Israel considers major strategic threats.
He also credited the United States with helping Israel address hostage-related issues, emphasizing cooperation between American and Israeli personnel during a period of intense regional conflict.
The Israeli prime minister framed the relationship as extending beyond bilateral interests, arguing that Washington and Jerusalem were acting together against threats that he described as dangerous to international security.
His praise for Trump contrasted with the unusually limited nature of Netanyahu’s 2026 New York visit, which lasted only several hours and included no scheduled meeting with the American president.
Reuters reported that Netanyahu’s brief trip represented a significant change from his previous United Nations visits, including last year’s longer visit and meeting with Trump.
Netanyahu’s office announced meetings with several international leaders during the trip, but his schedule did not include meetings with Trump or Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
The absence of a Trump-Netanyahu meeting attracted attention because the two leaders have maintained a close public relationship while facing complicated strategic questions surrounding Iran, Gaza and regional security.
Earlier in September, Netanyahu described the United States-Israel alliance as stronger than ever, citing what he called historic progress between the two countries during the previous year.
At the United Nations, Netanyahu expanded that message by portraying American support as essential to Israel’s military and diplomatic efforts throughout the region.
His speech also focused heavily on Iran, Israel’s military campaign, international criticism and what Netanyahu described as efforts to misrepresent Israel’s actions through international media.
The address unfolded amid significant political tension inside and outside the United Nations, with dozens of delegates leaving the chamber as Netanyahu began speaking.
Protests also took place outside the United Nations headquarters, with demonstrators criticizing Netanyahu’s government and its conduct during the Gaza conflict. More than 100 people were arrested during protests, according to reporting.
Netanyahu responded forcefully to his critics, accusing opponents of attempting to silence Israel and arguing that his government had a responsibility to defend the country’s security.
He also criticized several international governments and political figures, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, while defending Israel against allegations surrounding its military campaign.
The speech came as Netanyahu faces a closely watched political environment at home, with Israel scheduled to hold parliamentary elections on October 27, according to Reuters reporting.
Despite the diplomatic tensions surrounding his visit, Netanyahu used the United Nations platform to emphasize the strategic importance of Washington’s support and publicly thank Trump for his partnership.
His comments underscored the continuing importance of the American-Israeli relationship while also highlighting the complicated diplomatic environment surrounding Israel, the United States, Iran and the broader Middle East.
The Trump administration’s relationship with Israel remains a central factor in regional diplomacy, while Netanyahu continues to present cooperation with Washington as an important component of Israel’s security strategy.
