No Evidence Barack Obama “Did the Unthinkable” as Viral Graphic Targets Former President

Preview

A sensational social-media graphic featuring former President Barack Obama and President Donald Trump claims that Obama has “done the unthinkable” and left “millions speechless.”

But the graphic does not identify what Obama supposedly did, when he did it, or provide a credible source for the claim. A review of recent reporting and official Obama Foundation announcements found no verified event matching the dramatic headline.

Instead, the latest developments involving Obama and Trump show a familiar pattern: Trump continues to invoke and criticize his predecessor, while Obama has largely focused on his presidential center, leadership programs and other post-presidential activities.

The Viral Graphic Provides No Specific Claim

The image uses highly emotional language — “Pure EVIL” and “Obama Does the Unthinkable” — but stops short of explaining what the former president allegedly did.

There is also no date, quotation, speech, policy announcement or identifiable news event attached to the claim.

That makes the graphic difficult to treat as a conventional news report.

A legitimate breaking-news story involving Obama would normally be traceable to an official statement, speech, interview, public appearance or reporting from established news organizations. Searches of recent coverage did not identify a credible report supporting the graphic's specific allegation.

Obama’s Most Recent Public Activity Has Focused on His Foundation

One of the clearest recent developments involving Obama came from the Obama Foundation.

On Sept. 9, the foundation announced its 2026-27 class of 155 Global Leaders from 64 countries and territories. The announcement marked the first class welcomed since the Obama Presidential Center opened in Chicago.

The program brings together leaders working in government, business and civil society and is designed around leadership development and community-focused work.

The foundation's recent public announcements similarly focus on the presidential center, civic engagement and leadership programs rather than a new political confrontation with Trump.

Obama also launched a podcast in August 2026 focused on books that shaped his worldview, another example of his post-presidential work outside elected office.

Trump, Meanwhile, Has Continued to Invoke Obama

The more significant recent Obama-Trump story has actually come from Trump.

During Labor Day weekend, Trump published a series of highly stylized and AI-generated or digitally manipulated images and videos on Truth Social. Some of the material targeted Obama and other political figures.

The Associated Press reported that Trump's social-media activity has increasingly portrayed him as an exceptionally powerful or heroic figure while the administration faces challenges including inflation, the war with Iran and weak approval ratings.

Trump has also ranked himself as the greatest U.S. president in a Truth Social post, while placing Obama among the presidents he classified as “failures.” The ranking was reported by the Guardian and other outlets in early September.

That development is real — but it was Trump, not Obama, making the provocative political statement.

Trump Recently Shared an Edited Video Featuring Obama

Another recent example came on Labor Day.

Trump posted an edited video intended to portray himself as more respectful of U.S. troops than several other political leaders. The montage included former presidents Barack Obama and Joe Biden, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron and Britain's King Charles.

The problem was that some of the clips were selectively edited.

In the case of Obama, the video showed him leaving Marine One and saluting Marines while holding a paper cup. Other portions of the montage similarly presented foreign leaders in an unfavorable light while highlighting Trump honoring military personnel.

The episode generated criticism over the use of selectively edited footage.

The Daily Beast and other outlets also noted that the attack on Obama appeared to backfire because additional footage showed Trump himself engaging in conduct that undermined the contrast his video was attempting to create.

Obama and Trump Remain Political Opposites

The continuing references to Obama are significant because the former president remains one of Trump's most recognizable political targets.

Trump has frequently criticized Obama's presidency and policies, while Obama's legacy remains influential within the Democratic Party.

Their political rivalry has also taken on a new dimension as the United States approaches the 2026 midterm elections.

Recent polling has shown Trump's political standing weakening. A July AP-NORC poll found that only 33% of U.S. adults approved of his performance as president, while broader polling in September has continued to show substantial dissatisfaction.

At the same time, Obama continues to have considerable visibility among Democrats and remains a prominent figure in the party's political history.

Obama Is Also Returning to the National Conversation Around 9/11

Obama is scheduled to attend the 25th-anniversary commemoration of the Sept. 11 attacks at the World Trade Center site in New York.

All four living former presidents — Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Obama and Joe Biden — are expected to attend the Ground Zero ceremony. Trump is instead scheduled to participate in a commemoration at the Pentagon.

The event has generated additional political controversy after Trump criticized media coverage of his decision not to attend the Ground Zero ceremony.

But again, there is no indication that Obama has made a new statement or taken an action corresponding to the “unthinkable” claim in the viral graphic.

What the Viral Graphic Gets Right — and What It Leaves Out

What is real:
Obama and Trump remain major political rivals, and Trump has recently used Obama's image and record in social-media attacks.

What is not established:
There is no credible evidence identified in current reporting that Obama recently carried out some unspecified “unthinkable” act that left “millions speechless.”

What is missing:
The graphic does not provide a date, quotation, policy, announcement or source explaining what Obama allegedly did.

Why that matters:
Without a specific factual claim, the headline is essentially a piece of political clickbait rather than a verifiable news report.

Bottom Line

The viral image should not be published as factual breaking news in its current form.

Recent, verifiable developments show that Obama remains active through the Obama Foundation and his presidential center, while Trump continues to invoke and criticize his predecessor in speeches and social-media posts.

But there is no reliable evidence that Barack Obama has recently “done the unthinkable,” as the graphic claims.

The strongest news angle is therefore not that Obama shocked millions of Americans, but that a sensational viral graphic is circulating without identifying a verifiable event behind its headline.
