LAS VEGAS – Rick Harrison, the 61-year-old star of the hit reality TV show "Pawn Stars," underwent emergency bypass surgery this week after doctors discovered a serious heart issue during what was expected to be a routine procedure .

According to a spokesperson for the Harrison family, the reality TV personality had gone into the hospital for a simpler stent procedure when physicians determined that a more significant intervention was required . The bypass surgery, an operation to restore or reroute blood flow around a blocked coronary artery, was performed successfully .

Following the operation, Harrison's family has confirmed that he is "resting comfortably and looking forward to a full recovery" . The family spokesperson added that he is grateful for the care provided by the doctors and hospital staff .

His wife, Angie Polushkin, a 42-year-old Las Vegas nurse whom he married earlier this year, has been by his side throughout the medical emergency .
