THE WORST IN U.S. HISTORY...

Trump’s Xi Summit Draws Online Criticism, but Viral “Bill Clinton” Quote Remains Unverified

WASHINGTON — A viral graphic featuring Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping and former President Bill Clinton claims Clinton described Trump’s remarks to Xi as “the most pathetic” speech in U.S. history. No reliable source located for this report confirms that quotation.

Trump and Xi met at the White House on September 24 during Xi’s three-day visit to Washington, with trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and broader security issues dominating discussions.

The meeting represented the leaders’ second summit of 2026 and Xi’s first visit to the United States in nearly three years, according to Reuters reporting.

Trump opened the public portion of the meeting by emphasizing the importance of cooperation, saying the two countries could accomplish more by focusing on shared interests.

In remarks to Xi, Trump said the two sides had made “tremendous strides” on issues affecting their countries and highlighted efforts toward a more balanced trading relationship.

Trade was one of the clearest areas of practical discussion, with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announcing that the existing U.S.-China trade truce would be extended for two additional months.

The extension moved the deadline to January 10 and gives negotiators additional time to work on tariffs, Chinese purchases, rare-earth supplies and technology restrictions.

Trump also said American farmers and ranchers could benefit from improved market access resulting from the negotiations, although detailed commitments were not immediately provided publicly.

Reuters reported that the summit produced significant diplomatic symbolism but relatively few publicly announced breakthroughs on several of the most difficult issues separating Washington and Beijing.

Artificial intelligence featured prominently in the discussions, with Trump referring to technology and “superintelligence” as important areas for the two governments to address.

Xi, meanwhile, emphasized that artificial intelligence should remain under human control and be developed responsibly, according to reporting on the summit.

Taiwan remained another sensitive issue. Chinese officials continue to oppose Taiwanese independence, while Washington maintains longstanding security commitments and arms relationships involving Taipei.

The summit also touched on Iran, with U.S. officials saying Trump communicated concerns about Chinese support for Tehran while Beijing continued advocating diplomatic negotiations.

The highly publicized meeting included a formal welcome ceremony, White House discussions and a state dinner attended by Trump, Xi and their wives.

On September 25, Trump and Xi continued their visit with tea at the White House before traveling to the National Archives to view historical American documents.

Trump described the visit positively and said the United States and China were making progress, while Reuters noted that the public outcome remained limited compared with the breadth of issues under discussion.

The viral graphic takes a sharply different tone, presenting the summit through the phrase “the most pathetic in U.S. history” and placing an image of Bill Clinton beside Trump and Xi.

However, searches of recent mainstream reporting and available records did not locate a credible statement from Clinton using that wording about Trump’s Xi speech.

That distinction matters because viral political graphics frequently combine genuine photographs with unattributed quotations or headlines that cannot independently be traced to the person named.

The underlying photographs of Trump and Xi correspond to real events surrounding their 2026 summit, but the graphic itself does not establish that Clinton made the alleged statement.

The confirmed story is therefore centered on the trade-truce extension and continuing negotiations, rather than a verified public denunciation by Clinton.

The summit leaves Washington and Beijing with additional time to negotiate major economic questions, while disagreements involving technology, Taiwan, Iran and strategic competition remain unresolved.
