President Donald Trump said the United States will win its war with Iran “very soon,” while diplomatic efforts continue behind the scenes to determine whether the conflict can be brought to an end.

Trump made the remarks September 28 while speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, saying American officials had been communicating with mediators involved in efforts to resolve the conflict.

“We’re going to win,” Trump said, adding that the conflict would end “one way or the other” and suggesting that developments could move quickly.

Trump also predicted that gasoline prices would fall after the conflict ends, linking the outcome of the war to energy markets and the disruption surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

The comments came as Washington and Tehran remained engaged in indirect diplomacy, with Qatar and other regional actors attempting to bridge significant differences between the two sides.

By September 30, Trump said the war with Iran could end “very soon,” but he did not provide details about a potential agreement or specific conditions for ending military operations.

The administration has continued emphasizing that Iran must not obtain a nuclear weapon, one of the central issues surrounding the conflict.

Trump has also repeatedly focused on the Strait of Hormuz, a strategically important waterway through which a substantial portion of global oil shipments normally passes.

The confrontation has created uncertainty for commercial shipping and energy markets, with restrictions around the waterway contributing to elevated oil prices during periods of intensified fighting.

CBS News reported that Brent crude briefly moved above $126 per barrel during an earlier phase of the standoff, reflecting concerns over disruptions involving the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump has alternated between military threats and diplomatic overtures throughout the conflict, at times calling for negotiations while warning that additional attacks remain possible.

In late September, Trump rejected an Iranian proposal involving a temporary ceasefire, according to The Wall Street Journal, while mediators continued working to find a diplomatic path forward.

On October 1, Axios reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio had ordered an Iranian delegation attending the United Nations General Assembly to leave the United States after negotiations reached an impasse.

The development underscored the difficulties facing diplomatic efforts, although Qatari mediators continued communicating with both sides in an attempt to find potential compromises.

Iran subsequently said it had received an official American response to Tehran’s latest proposal for ending the conflict, according to reports published October 1.

The exchange suggested that diplomatic channels remained active even as military tensions continued and both governments maintained significant disagreements over the terms of any settlement.

Trump has argued that American military operations have substantially weakened Iran's military capabilities, while Iranian officials have continued presenting resistance to the United States as a central national objective.

The Washington Post reported in August that Trump had described Iran's military capabilities as heavily degraded while suggesting that the fighting might remain limited rather than develop into a broader escalation.

The conflict has now entered a prolonged and uncertain phase, with military pressure, economic sanctions, energy disruptions and diplomatic negotiations occurring simultaneously.

Trump's declaration that the United States will win “very soon” represents his assessment of the conflict, while the exact terms and timing of any settlement remain unresolved.

For now, Washington and Tehran continue to face major disagreements over Iran's nuclear program, sanctions, military activity and the future of the Strait of Hormuz.

Whether the latest diplomatic efforts produce a durable agreement remains uncertain, but the continued exchange of proposals indicates that negotiations have not completely broken down.

Trump's latest statements therefore place the conflict at a critical diplomatic stage, with the president predicting a rapid conclusion while mediators continue trying to resolve the remaining disputes.
