TRUMP: OIL PRICES WILL…
Trump Predicts Iran War Will End Soon, Says Oil Prices Could Plunge
President Donald Trump said Sunday that he expects the conflict with Iran to end soon, predicting that oil prices could fall sharply once the fighting comes to an end.
Trump made the remarks during an interview with Fox News correspondent Aishah Hasnie at the Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois.
“I think what’s going to happen is we’re going to win the war very soon,” Trump said, expressing confidence that the United States is moving toward a favorable conclusion.
The president linked his prediction to what he described as a combination of economic pressure and military action being used against Tehran during the prolonged confrontation.
Trump also said oil prices would decline significantly once the conflict ends, suggesting that energy markets could quickly respond to reduced geopolitical uncertainty.
His comments come as disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz continue to affect global energy markets, making the strategic waterway a central issue in the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial route for international oil shipments, meaning developments there can have immediate consequences for crude prices and energy costs worldwide.
Recent market movements illustrate that sensitivity. Reuters reported Monday that Brent crude rose more than one percent after Trump rejected an Iranian proposal connected to reopening the Strait.
At the time of the report, Brent crude was trading above $106 per barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was above $93 per barrel.
Trump nevertheless maintained that oil prices could fall substantially after the war ends, pointing to increased oil flows through the Strait as evidence supporting his outlook.
The president has also emphasized that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains a central objective of the U.S. campaign.
Trump's latest comments came as Washington and Tehran remained engaged in discussions through intermediaries, although neither side had announced a final agreement ending the conflict.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran remained prepared for renewed military confrontation while also leaving the door open to diplomatic negotiations.
The competing messages highlight the uncertainty surrounding the next phase of the conflict, with diplomatic efforts continuing alongside the possibility of further military action.
Trump has not ruled out additional strikes against Iran before the November midterm elections, while continuing to say that he expects the conflict to conclude soon.
Meanwhile, American officials have argued that economic pressure and restrictions affecting Iranian oil flows are increasing pressure on Tehran to reach an agreement.
Energy prices have become a major domestic concern as the conflict continues, with U.S. gasoline prices recently reaching unusually high levels.
Against that backdrop, Trump's prediction about falling oil prices carries particular significance for consumers, businesses and markets watching developments in the Middle East.
The remarks also came during Trump's appearance at the Presidents Cup, where he served as honorary chairman and watched the final day of competition at Medinah.
The United States ultimately won the 2026 Presidents Cup, defeating the International team 17–13 after overcoming a three-point deficit entering Sunday's singles matches.
For the latest developments, the key questions remain whether negotiations with Iran can produce an agreement, whether fighting will escalate further, and how quickly energy markets respond if the conflict eventually ends.
