White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles Announces She Is Cancer-Free After Breast Cancer Treatment

President Donald Trump’s chief of staff says pathology results from the Mayo Clinic came back clear, six months after revealing an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis while continuing her White House duties.

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17, 2026 — White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles has announced she is cancer-free, sharing an encouraging health update approximately six months after being diagnosed with breast cancer.

Wiles disclosed the news Wednesday on X, saying pathology results following a medical appointment at the Mayo Clinic this week had come back clear and showed no remaining cancer.

“I am cancer free,” Wiles wrote, while thanking her family, friends, physicians and people who supported and prayed for her throughout her treatment and recovery.

The announcement marks a major change from March, when President Donald Trump publicly revealed that his chief of staff had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and was beginning treatment.

Trump said at the time that doctors had detected Wiles’ cancer early and described her prognosis as excellent, while publicly praising her determination to continue serving in his administration.

Wiles subsequently confirmed the diagnosis herself, noting that breast cancer affects many American women and saying she intended to continue performing her responsibilities while receiving medical treatment.

She did exactly that. Wiles remained White House chief of staff throughout treatment and continued appearing alongside Trump at administration meetings, political events and official engagements during the following months.

CBS News reported that Wiles underwent a medical procedure at the Mayo Clinic earlier this week, with pathology results from a Monday biopsy subsequently confirming the encouraging outcome.

Wiles also specifically thanked Trump for what she described as his unwavering support and said she would continue working to advance the administration’s agenda following her positive medical results.

The White House chief of staff had traveled with Trump to Dallas last week, although CBS reported she did not accompany the president during his more recent weekend trip to Ireland.

Trump had encouraged Wiles to begin treatment immediately after learning of her diagnosis and told her she could take whatever time away from the White House she required.

Wiles instead chose to remain in her position during treatment, maintaining a visible presence within an administration in which she has become one of the president’s most influential advisers.

Her announcement prompted congratulations from administration officials. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. responded publicly to the news by declaring that prayers for Wiles had been answered.

The health update carries particular significance because Wiles occupies one of Washington’s most demanding positions, overseeing White House operations and serving as a central link between Trump and his administration.

Wiles also made history when she became the first woman to serve as White House chief of staff, assuming the position when Trump began his second presidential term in January 2025.

Before entering the White House, Wiles played a central role in Trump’s political comeback, helping direct the campaign operation that returned him to the presidency in the 2024 election.

Her relationship with Trump extends back years, particularly through Florida politics, where Wiles developed a reputation as an experienced Republican strategist before becoming one of Trump’s closest political advisers.

When announcing the diagnosis in March, Trump publicly characterized Wiles as an exceptionally strong adviser and said her willingness to continue working during treatment reflected her commitment to public service.

The president also predicted at the time that Wiles would recover, while emphasizing that her cancer had been discovered early and that doctors considered her medical outlook highly favorable.

Wednesday’s announcement provided the clearest update since that diagnosis, with Wiles saying her latest pathology results were clear following the Mayo Clinic appointment rather than offering additional details about her treatment.

The phrase “cancer-free” reflects Wiles’ own public description of her latest medical results. Public reporting has not provided detailed additional information about future monitoring or other aspects of her medical care.

Her statement focused instead on gratitude, thanking those who supported her during the previous six months before making clear that she intends to continue serving as Trump’s chief of staff.

For the White House, the announcement means one of Trump’s closest advisers has received encouraging medical results while remaining in the senior position she has occupied throughout his second administration.

For Wiles personally, the message was considerably simpler: six months after publicly acknowledging an early-stage breast cancer diagnosis, she was able to announce that her latest pathology results were clear.
