Wild speculation! – Where is Khamenei?

Iran Explains Why Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei Has Stayed Out of Public View

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says there are “security reasons” behind Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s continued absence from public view following his reported injuries in U.S.-Israeli airstrikes earlier this year.

In an interview released Sunday, Araghchi said Khamenei remains alive and continues to provide guidance to Iran’s leadership despite having made no public appearance since taking office.

The foreign minister said security concerns are the primary reason the supreme leader has avoided appearing publicly or releasing a video intended to prove that he is alive.

Araghchi said there are indications that Khamenei remains under serious security threats, particularly from the United States, making a public appearance potentially dangerous.

The comments come months after U.S. and Israeli strikes killed Khamenei’s father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, during the opening phase of the conflict.

Mojtaba Khamenei was reportedly injured during those strikes, according to multiple reports, although details surrounding the severity of his injuries have remained unclear.

Since becoming supreme leader in March, Mojtaba Khamenei has issued written statements and messages through Iranian state institutions but has not appeared publicly.

The prolonged absence has fueled speculation about his health and whereabouts, particularly because Iranian authorities have not released independently verified video or audio footage showing him speaking.

Araghchi rejected those concerns, saying Iranian officials continue to receive instructions, views and guidance from the supreme leader.

“We still receive opinions, guidance and views from the Supreme Leader,” Araghchi said, according to Iranian reporting on his interview.

He also dismissed suggestions that competing centers of power have emerged inside Iran while Khamenei remains out of public view.

According to Araghchi, Iran’s Foreign Ministry continues coordinating with the government, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Supreme National Security Council and parliament.

The foreign minister characterized Iran’s leadership as unified in responding to pressure from Washington, including economic sanctions and military operations.

The question of Khamenei’s health has nevertheless remained a subject of international attention because he has not appeared publicly since succeeding his father.

Iranian authorities previously promised that footage of Khamenei would eventually be released, but no authenticated public video has emerged showing him since the February strikes.

In September, Iranian state media also published what it described as a handwritten letter from Khamenei to an Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps commander, potentially providing evidence that he remained alive.

The authenticity of that document could not immediately be independently verified, however, leaving questions surrounding Khamenei’s physical condition unresolved.

Araghchi’s latest explanation therefore places security at the center of Tehran’s justification for keeping the supreme leader away from cameras and public events.

The explanation also comes as the conflict with the United States and Israel continues to shape Iran’s security calculations and the government’s public communications.

Khamenei’s absence has become particularly notable because Iran has continued issuing statements in his name while providing limited visual evidence of his current condition.

For now, Araghchi insists that the supreme leader remains involved in decision-making and that Iran’s leadership structure continues functioning despite the extraordinary security circumstances.

The unanswered question is whether Tehran will eventually release authenticated video or audio of Mojtaba Khamenei, potentially providing the public with direct evidence of his condition and current role.
